Red Fort is a historic fort in the city of Delhi in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years, until 1856. It is located in the center of Delhi and houses a number of museums. 

Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1639, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally red and white, the Shah's favorite colors, its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, who also constructed the Taj Mahal.Red Fort, Delhi. Delhi's famous Red Fort is known by that name because of the red stone with which it is built and it is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world. India's history is also closely linked with this fort. ... The Diwan-e-Aam is the Red Fort's hall of public audience.
