Nagpur, the winter capital of Maharashtra, and the largest and most important city in Vidarbha. We know that Nagpur is famous for its Oranges. Here are some lesser known facts about the city.
The river Nag flows through this land and hence the place got its name as Nagpur. Once, Nagpur was the capital of the central province. It was blessed with rich forest resources and many eye-popping natural treasures. It is popularly known as the orange city.It is famous for Nagpur oranges and is sometimes known as the Orange City for being a major trade center of oranges cultivated in the region. The city was founded in 1703 by the Gonds King Bakht Buland Shah of Deogarh and later became a part of the Maratha Empire under the royal Bhonsle dynasty.
