TYPES OF ANIMAL


The five most well-known classes of vertebrates (animals with backbones) are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians. They are all part of the phylum Chordata -- I remember "Chordata" by thinking of spinal chord.


There are many living things in the world. To keep them simple and easier to remember, the scientists had identify many groups of animals. The six main groups are: invertebrates, mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish.
Animals are classified into different groups based on their characteristics. Invertebrates are animals that do not have a spine, or backbone. Vertebrates are animals that do! Vertebrates are further classified into fish, amphibians, reptiles,birds, and mammals.
