RIVER
- Rivers are made up of some easily recognisable parts, which are shown in Figure 1: River bed:
The bottom surface of the river, which the water flows on top. Source: Where the river starts from, usually a lake, glacier, snowfield or spring.
- Upper-course river features include steep-sided V-shaped valleys, interlocking spurs, rapids, waterfalls and gorges.
- Middle-course river features include wider, shallower valleys, meanders, and oxbow lakes.
- Lower-course river features include wide flat-bottomed valleys, floodplains and deltas.
- A young riveris often in a V-shaped river bed, and flows quickly downhill over stones, and around big rocks.
